In the beginning, Nate is simply a normal student rushing into class, who is focused on not being late and not getting in trouble. He’s present at that moment. However, It’s only when the new girl walks in and sits in front of him that everything changes. The sight of her pulls him straight back to that night at the club, which is a moment he wishes he could take back. His development comes from that realization of how that night felt. At the club, he was confident, playful, and completely himself during their interaction. In that moment, he felt seen and understood. When her boyfriend pulled her away, he realized it was too good to be true. But seeing her again in the classroom forces him to face the fact that it did matter to him. Now, instead of just admiring her from a distance, he has to sit with this feeling of unfinished feelings. His character changes from someone who lets a moment pass to someone who may have to decide whether he’s going to let it slip away again. | Serena is introduced as mysterious and this captivating look, someone who just naturally attracts attention without trying. In the club memory, she is very confident, playful, and has quick thinking, matching his energy. However, her very sudden exit reveals that there are these layers to her life he doesn’t see. In the classroom, she becomes more than just the girl from that night. She represents unfinished emotion and unresolved tension. As the story develops her character can evolve from being just a memory or fantasy into a real person with her own thoughts, choices and possible struggles. |
