In my project I had both used and challenged common conventions of romance films. Most romance stories show a confident male lead who knows exactly how he feels from the beginning. In my film, the boy gives a more quiet and more distant feel.. He is not fully aware of his emotions until the girl walks into him and memories begin to flow back. This challenges the typical stereotype of the emotionally strong and expressive male character. Instead he develops slowly, as we will see in the memory. I will use conventions like meaningful eye contact, soft lighting, and music to build emotional tension between the two characters.
My project also represents social groups and issues in a realistic way. My characters are high school students, which makes the story relatable to teenagers. It shows how young people deal with jealousy, confusion, and unspoken feelings. The scene where the girl is kissed by another boy in the club will highlight issues of miscommunication and even insecurity that many teens experience. Instead of making the girl seem like a villain, she is shown as independent and unsure of her own emotions. But overall, my product mixes traditional romance elements with a more realistic character development to show that teenage relationships are complicated and not always perfect.
